Slumdog Millionaire

Hello to all and hope to those reading this, you are safe and well in this crazy time in history. I am writing this the day before Thanksgiving, so I pray you have a very Happy Thanksgiving filled with good times with family and friends. I do have some thoughts i wanted to share with hopes this might help someone questioning purpose for their lives. My title refers to a movie I saw years ago called “Slumdog Millionaire.” The idea of the film is a young man wins the Indian game show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” by answering every question correctly, and due to his humble upbringing, he is accused of cheating. He grew up in India in the Juhu slums of Mumbai, basically living on the streets, and no one believes he could know all the answers. He then has to explain to the police how he did not cheat by recounting events in his life that he was able to answer every question. For every answer, he had a story from his life that he was able to give reason why he knew what he did. For everything he had been through, he was able to use what he had learned in this one moment in his life to achieve a goal no one thought possible.

You might be asking, why am I referring to this 2008 film and for what purpose? Very simply put, what we go through in life will prepare us for what we will go through in the future. We might not realize it at the time but every situation we endure, the good with the bad, it’s God’s way of preparing us for what might come in the future. Life is very unpredictable, as example, what is happening right now in our world, but we are given tools to deal with the unknown. Not to say, we will know how to exactly deal with every situation, but tools we learned through our experiences will prepare us that we have an idea how to precede forward.

I have found this recently in my own life. My husband and I made a move over 7 months ago to be closer to my family, especially my elderly grandparents and handicap uncle. We had wanted to care for them and I wasn’t sure at first how to do that. They also were not sure how to receive our help being on their own for so many years. Slowly, we have found ways to be a help and blessing using tools we have learned through the years. My husband has been able to offer plumbing and air conditioner repair help due to his schooling and knowledge he acquired years ago. Also, his computer skills and electronic knowledge he acquired has been a tremendous blessing for TV setup and document printing along with appointment setups. He also has helped with yard maintenance and equipment repair, with all his skills he learned back when he was a teenager. I have been able to play taxi service for my grandparents and due to my husband’s long term instruction on safe driving, I am able to take things slow and put them at ease. I also have been able to disperse medications and keep them on a schedule due to helping my husband do the same over the last year. And finally, I have learned great patience and service, due to my years in customer service, and that listening and serving in love is what makes the difference.

To some, this might seem insignificant and that these examples are small in comparison to life changing situations. To my grandparents and to us, this means the world. We are finally able to be a help with way more than we thought possible, and we believe God prepared us for such a time as this. We have learned a lot through life and that you might go through some hard times, but God is the potter, and you are the clay. He is molding you for better things. Hold on, fight through, and just know, you will be better for it all. It might not be easy, and even God’s will is not always comfortable, but He has a reason and purpose for your life!!

God Bless You, Krisha Hall 11/25/20
